Majestic, secluded, and breathtakingly beautiful — Grey Heron Home & Guest House is the crown jewel of beachfront living on Captiva Island. Perched directly on the Gulf of Mexico on iconic Captiva Drive, this spectacular two-structure compound offers 14 guests an unparalleled combination of luxury, privacy, and natural splendor that simply cannot be found anywhere else on the island.

Grey Heron is unlike any other Captiva rental — it's a full beachfront compound comprised of a spacious main house and a separate, fully equipped guest house. The main house features three luxurious bedrooms (two kings and a queen) across three full and one half bath, while the charming guest house adds three additional bedrooms (a king, and two queens) and two bathrooms. Together, they accommodate 14 guests in total comfort, with the added bonus of privacy between groups within the compound.

The location on Captiva Drive is as dramatic as it gets. Step outside and the Gulf of Mexico spreads before you in an endless horizon of turquoise and gold. Watch pelicans glide low over the water, spot dolphins playing in the morning surf, and witness Captiva's legendary sunsets paint the sky in shades of orange, pink, and violet every single evening. ☀️ This is the beachfront Captiva experience in its most magnificent form.

A private elevator serves the main house, making it easy to move between floors with luggage, beach gear, and groceries. Central A/C keeps both structures cool and comfortable, and all linens, beach towels, and beach chairs/umbrellas are included across both properties.

Both the main house and guest house feature fully equipped kitchens with Keurig coffee makers and all the essentials. WiFi and washer/dryer are available. This is a home designed for large extended families, multi-generational gatherings, or groups who want the special experience of a private beachfront estate with the added convenience of separate living spaces for different branches of the group.

Captiva Village's famous restaurants, boutiques, and activities are a short drive away. But at Grey Heron, you may find it difficult to leave — the beach is right there, calling you back every single time.

Whether you're celebrating a milestone, gathering the family for a once-in-a-lifetime reunion, or simply treating yourself to the finest beachfront experience Captiva has to offer, Grey Heron delivers beyond all expectations.

Family getaway
We had a wonderful time in Captiva this last week. House was very nice and accommodated our family well. Wonderful pool and so close to beach. Lots of cute shops and bars to enjoy. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Beach Vacation!
Overall, this is an amazing home with a breathtaking view and close access to the beach. However, it could use an overall “upgrade”, especially in the kitchen of the Main House. The indoor “sauna” was non-functional and the master bath tub jets did not work. This was not mentioned in the house summary. While our family of 12 had a wonderful time, I have made a list of some of the issues we noted during our stay: in the Guest House, bathroom sink handle broken (right sink/right handle) and 2 TVs in bedrooms do not work - no reception.
In the Main House, Stove glass is broken and one burner does not work. Need to label light switches in main house - they are very confusing. Microwave broken (tiny countertop microwave replacement). Not enough towels (beach or bath towels). Need more kitchen utensils. Ice maker broken in main house - ice does not come out of refrigerator door. More blankets/throws for guests. More seating in main house great room. A couple of armchairs would be nice. Multiple pool chairs were broken. Beach chairs were flimsy and cheap. Would be nice to have chaise lounges much like houses on each side.

Overall, I nice upgrade would benefit this property.

Grey Heron Happy
Loved the Island, loved the house. Had a great time and booked for next year. My only suggestion would be to beef up the kitchen utilities (some of the things we missed were a tray, serving dishes and serving pieces, whisk, etc ) but this was a small thing. I give it a 5 overall

Would highly recommend this place!
We stayed at Grey Heron for a week in January 2020. The home is loaded with amenities, and the property is very private. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Grey Heron a great stay
Grey Heron has everything you need and more. The property was clean, spacious and met all our needs for a great beach vacation. Upstairs bedroom suit does get warm during the day.

Even Better than expected
Very nicely updated house. The beds were comfortable and there is plenty of room in dining area for entertaining. There is a propane grill on the back deck. The pool area is very relaxing. Very short walk to the beach. Feels like a private beach as it’s far enough from the public access. The upstairs master suite does get hot in the summer but fans help with this. Overall great house and would stay here again.

Loved the beach and pool
Pros: We loved the homes location we spent our days at the homes pool, beach and outdoor screened patio area. Lots of beach and bath towels.
Cons:The home needs a bathroom on the main floor. It was a challenge with kids sleeping in the bunk area and also when coming inside from the pool and beach and not having easy access to a bathroom. The kitchen needs more cooking ware; pots and pans, sharp knife’s and griddle. No pool skimmer or way for us to clean the bugs from the surface of the pool.
We had a great stay and enjoyed the home.

we would come back in a heartbeat to enjoy the charm of Captiva.
We came for a first time visit with a extended family of 10 from age 3 to 73 to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. We are from California, love the beach, and wanted to experience the Florida gulf for a change. This house is perfect for a large group. The beds were very comfortable, the home has lots of room to spread out, and the location was ideal. The pool was fabulous. The beach is steps away and not crowded even though we were there during Spring Break. The little ones loved collecting shells and water/sand play. The sunsets incredible. The house was clean with the exception of the BBQ grease tray which was overflowing and a pain to clean as there were no spare jars or cans in which to collect the grease. The management also does not leave any extra paper towels or cleaning items--just a bare minimum to get you going for a day or so. The house is comfortable but is showing some signs of wear and tear and could use some TLC. This was not an issue, but couldn't help noticing. We did not try the sauna, or jacuzzi. We could not figure out how to use the elevator and could find no instructions. Luckily we had strong men to help carry baggage up stairs and every one was able bodied. There are lots of stairs in this house so be aware if stairs are a issue. The light switches and fan switches are not labeled, so that takes some time and trial and error to figure out. TV's nice and all were working. There were plenty of towels for the bathrooms and pool use. Bring your own paper products, cleaning products, plastic storage and garbage bags, and all your own spices as the cleaning crew removes everything. We were flying home so could not take that with us. It was annoying to have to buy these things knowing that any leftovers were not going to be saved for the next person--I hate waste.
The restaurants on Captiva were all fabulous. We used Native Guides for a half day boat trip to Cayo Costa. Loved the Shell Museum.

Beautiful Home and Location
The home and location were just as described. Very spacious. Management company staff was very professional. We rented from Saturday to Saturday. Unfortunately a tropical storm came through on Tuesday so we had debris in the pool and deck for the rest of the week.

Absolutely beautiful
Our vacation was amazing. The house is spacious and well cared for. Could have used more kitchen utensils, mixer, and baking pans. We ran out of dishwasher soap, dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap and had to purchase more. The beach was not crowded at all. Maybe six or seven people. It felt like we had our own private beach. Sunsets were gorgeous. Wish we could have stayed another week. I would absolutely recommend the Grey Heron vacation home.

Great Family Beach Vacation Home
We have rented Grey Heron many times for many years. Our family loves it there!
It’s spacious and clean, not overly decorated and works well for a whole group! If anything is needed or something isn’t working, Lisa and Albert get the problem fixed right away with their maintenance people.
We will be back next year!
A small restroom in the lower level is the only thing needed!! We have our fingers crossed!!

Carefree Captiva Home
Our stay at the Grey Heron in June was absolutely perfect. This property has 2 houses that accommodate large/extended families. The pool was clean and the kids loved the basketball goals/volleyball net for fun away from the beach. The beach was right out back and very quiet. We saw lots of wildlife right from the house! Every room was comfortable and we had no issues with any maintenance. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked most of our meals while there and found everything we needed. The grill was low on gas and they came and replaced that immediately. I could not be more pleased with this property and the staff at American Realty. They made everything so easy.

Best trip ever to Captiva!!
WOW!! What an incredible week on Captiva Island and American Realty and Lisa are truly the reason. We stayed at the “Grey Heron” which is a beautiful beach front home w/ a heated pool right on the beach w/ 2 houses on the property. Truly a lovely experience. We only had to reach out to American Realty 1 time during our stay and someone came over in less than 30 minutes to help remedy our minor issue. I cannot say enough good things about the house which is newly renovated. Incredibly clean, furnished comfortably and well equipped with anything you need for a family stay. We have used other rental companies through the years on Captiva but moving forward based on our experience American Realty and Lisa will be our first and only call! Thank you for being wonderful hosts

Wonderful As Always!
We’ve been going to Grey Heron for years with our kids and grandchildren. There is enough room for all us with the back guest house.
There has been some remodeling and changes since the bad hurricanes which are all great.
What we really like is it is very clean, nicely decorated in pretty beachy colors, but very simple too. Not overly decorated with lots of figurines all over that we would have to move with children running around. It’s really quite perfect in a lot of ways. The only thing they need is a little powder room in the basement area which is now a bedroom. Someday!?!?
Albert and Lisa at American Realty are the best. Rod and Fernando in maintenance are also. We’ve gotten to know them all through the years and couldn’t ask for a better team.
We always look forward to our time at Grey Heron!!

Great Stay!
This house was perfect for our family of 12. Plenty of room. Our 3 older boys slept in the guest house. It was hard to tell from the pictures which bedrooms were in the main house and which were in the guest house but luckily it worked out perfectly. Albert from American reality was incredible and answered all of my questions. He was quite helpful and cheerful. Only 2 complaints I have are, the wifi was a bit spotty, but who cares, you're on vacation. And the pool got a bit murky towards the end of the stay. Other than that the house was incredible!

Great for large family
We love Captiva and the location of this house. The screened porch, pool and spa make it just about perfect. Anytime we’ve called for a maintenance issue the response has been quick. The house is clean and comfortable. The guest house option accommodates a large family. Our only concern is the outdoor gas grill is not properly maintained. My husband wanted to clean it up a bit but there was nowhere to dispose of the overflowing grease pan.

Inadequate Air Conditioner
An otherwise good week was marred by an overly warm house. The AC in the main house cannot keep the main level at a comfortable temperature all day. Every morning it started out at the 74 degrees set on the thermostat but rose into the upper seventies...77, 78, 79 by evening. There were fans scattered around so we knew they knew about the problem. Though management sent an HVAC repairman, he stated the system was on its "last legs" and was unable to solve the problem. Management did not offer any compensation.
